Detailed Section (left), Plan + Section (right)
The Three Sisters planting method treats each plant as part of a greater whole. Using this logic, the Three Sisters Cultural Complex responds to site and climatic conditions through multiple scales, utilizing redundant systems to strengthen the whole. An exhibition space, a community center, and a public library surround a central courtyard that acts as a unifying social space. Each building features a winter garden paired with a solar chimney, anchoring both passive environmental strategies and social activity while shaping light-filled interiors that encourage a connection to the site.

Each building is constructed using mass timber, with 10” thick Cross Laminated Timber structural floor panels and 1’ x 1’ Glue Laminated columns spaced every 10 feet. All building connections are designed for disassembly, minimizing environmental impact.
